Recently, the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) has published revealing results on teleworking in Spain. According to the Survey on Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Households, the rate of women that telework has increased, while the one of men has decreased, widening the existing gender gap in teleworking in Spain. Telework continues to lose share
Telework, a concept included in the survey in 2021 after the pandemic boom, reached 17.6%, but dropped to 14% the following year. In 2023, the figure has remained stable, with a slight drop of two tenths.
Cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants and provincial capitals remain the most successful habitats for teleworking, although they have lost share since the previous year. In contrast, in smaller municipalities, from 20,000 to 100,000 inhabitants, the attractiveness of teleworking has increased.
